Day One
He left in the early hours of the morning, in fact, we both woke up to get him ready for his trip. There was something about a change in the time of his flight and we only got to know about it at the 12th hour. It wasn’t funny as plans already made were canceled and some adjusted and others readjusted to fit into the order of things. I spent the night awake scrolling through Instagram and watching comedy skits, while I prayed within my heart that he gets to the airport safely and check in his luggage successfully. I was a bit jittery because I had packed some food. You know how it is going to an Oyinbo land, you must always carry the food of your Father’s land. Besides, there is just something special about the taste of a Nigerian meal. Our meat and so many other things taste more real than theirs. So, I waited until I heard my phone vibrate, I hurriedly picked the call.
“Hello.” I said.
“Hello I am about boarding.” He said.
I breathed a sigh of relief
“Thank God, I wish you a safe flight. Did you ask about the hotel?” I said.
“Yes, I was told to ask when I get to Nairobi.” He said.
“Ok love, bye” I hung up and fell asleep.
Cheers!
