Aha, aha, Christmas has come and gone and I knew some of us will be financially, emotionally and physically exhausted; we are all used up. Oh poor Santa, he comes, does his job, and then is packed away until next December.
No doubt, we all love Christmas and all of its trappings – the lights, trees, poinsettias, decorations, cards, gifts, parties, Christmas clothes, and Christmas music. I enjoy all of the Christmas decorations and festivities, especially when I am in Europe for the Europeans knows how to prepare for Christmas.
In spite of this, there’s also a sad aspect; every year we dedicate days and weeks to prepare for Christmas and finally, Christmas day is upon us. Gifts are opened, rice and chicken are consumed, then what? The Christmas tree remains, even with its twinkling lights aglow, it looks useless. We want it taken down as soon as possible after celebrating the New Year. The decorations that captured our fancy a short time ago now look out of place. Why does this happen? We lost the essence of Christmas.
In our rush to get to Christmas we are caught up in the customs and traditions. As soon as it’s over, the feeling of emptiness overwhelms us. Unless our focus has been on the essence for the season, that is. If Jesus, who was born in that little town of Bethlehem, stays in our line of vision, the memories of our celebrations remain and so does Jesus. He can’t and won’t be packed away.
Remember Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. Let’s praise Him (Hebrews 13:8). Let’s celebrate the birth, the life, and the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus. We shouldn’t wait for December 25 to celebrate Him. Let’s have Christmas everyday.
Good morning and have a blessed day.
