Nurse Olugbenga Isaac, a 27-year old male allegedly drugged and raped a 19-year-old female patient. Terrible and sad things keep happening, what on earth must have possessed him?
Nurse Isaac was arraigned on Tuesday at the Ikeja Magistrates’ court in Lagos State.
Isaac, a resident of Ajah area of Lagos, is being tried for rape.
The prosecutor, Inspector Clifford Ogu, told the court that the accused committed the offence on September 15, 2016 at Onipanu, Lagos.
He said the accused unlawfully had sexual intercourse with the 19-year-old lady.
“The accused had sexual intercourse with a woman without her consent,” he said.
Ogu said the complainant was sick and called the defendant, a nurse, to treat her, Punch reported. Ogu said:
“The complainant had toothache, she called on the nurse to administer drugs on her. Instead, the accused injected her with a substance that made her sleep. The complainant slept off and the accused raped her and left.
“The complainant regained consciousness after several hours and was bleeding from her private part. It then dawned on her that she had been raped.”
The offence, Ogu said, contravened Section 258 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
Section 258 provides that if convicted of the offence, the accused is liable to life imprisonment.
The accused denied committing the offence, while the Magistrate, Mrs. T. Akanni, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till November 30 for mention.
We say, this is a sad sad story.
Alleged victims and victims of rape have always been blamed for indecent dressing or plying dark allies at an ungodly hour, or seducing their assailant. In this case, none of the above hypothetical situation was present. So what will the die hard non-believers that women can and are actually being raped have to say about this?
